Children should be handled very gently...Taking care of them is not an easy task! But mothers need to do that no matter what...Iam going to write down a few points on nail care..It is very difficult to cut nails for kids...Either they wont agree for this and cry over the procedure or they dont co-operate...
-Once children start walking they usually discover particles of dust and dirt that may have slipped an adult's eyes..So these get in to the nail bed and can cause infections..
-Make sure their nails are clean...while bathing them clean their finger nails properly...
-The right time to cut their nails would be while they are asleep..Otherwise they will squirm and might get hurt..Also they may cry during the procedure..
-Immediately after a bath also nails can be cut because nails become softer in texture..Even otherwise children's nails are softer than adults...
-Make sure you cut their nails atleast once a week...
-Do not leave the nail bed open...For that again will bring infections...
-The finger nails grow at a faster rate than the toe nails...
-You can use a small nail cutter or use a blunt scissor..There are special scissors to cut nails for babies...These wont have any sharp ends..So they wont hurt the child in any way...
-In case you are confident while your child is awake make sure you divert his/her attention by narrating a story...
So,good luck!!!

Post Partum Exercises
Exercise is very important for every individual..If you want to get back to your old you,you have to excercise...This will help regain your old self...In case you have had a normal delivery, you can start sooner..In case of a Caesarean section, you can start off once you are discharged from the hospital..
More than a person who has had a normal delivery,a person with a caesarean section needs more exercise as there were no contractions...The abdomen will be very flabby...So to get back the old muscle tone, you have to exercise with a proper schedule...Do not strain..Start slowly...Avoid pushing beyond the point of hurting your sutures/stiches...That could be dangerous...So slow and steady...
Here are a few exercises that can be done...
For The First Week:
1.Abdominal Breathing:
Breathe in deeply to expand abdomen..once you have done that, exhale slowly while drawing in abdominal muscle tightly...This can be done atleast 5 times...you can increase the frequency later on....
2.Arm Raising:
Lie flat on a flat surface, legs slighlty apart..Stretch arms away from shoulders on floor with elbows stiff above torso and touch your hands..Slowly return arms to the floor...This can be done 5 times a day...Make sure your baby isnt lying next to you on the bed while you exercise...There is every chance for him to be hurt..
3.Neck Stretch:
Lie on back with no pillows...Exhale and raise head to touch chin to chest...You can do this more than 5 times...
4.Pelvic Tilt:
Lie on a flat surface with knees bent...Once you have done this, you should inhale....And while exhaling, flatten your back against the flat surface you are lying on so there is no space between your back and the flat surface..Tighten your abdomen and buttock muscles as you flatten your back and lie...
This can be done 10 times..
The above exercises can be done during the first week after your delivery/labour...
For the Second Week:
1.Raising Legs:
Lie flat on a surface and point your toes outward...Then as you exhale, slowly raise leg to 45 deg angle..Inhale and lower leg slowly....Now raise the other leg..This can be done more than 10 times initially...Increase the frequency later on...
2.Heel To Buttocks:
Lie on a flat surface...Inhale and bend knee over abdomen...Exhale and toouch heel to buttocks...Breathe in and straighten your leg.....Exhale and lower your leg to the flat surface...Repeat with the other leg...This can be done 10 times...In case you find it difficult, reduce the frequency or the number of times...
The above exercises can be done during the second week...
For The Third Week:
1.Raising Both The Legs:
Lie on a flat surface...As you exhale, raise your right leg as high as possible....Inhale and keep the right leg straight and toes pointed...Exhale and raise your left leg as high as possible with knee straight and toes pointed...Inhale now...As you exhale, lower legs gradually..This can be done 5 times...If you are comfortable and confident, you may do it ten times...
2.Sit Ups:
Lie back on a flat surface...Cross your arms on the chest and exhale...While you exhale, raise your head and shoulders...Draw in your abdomen and inhale...And slowly return to lying flat on the surface....Deep abdominal muscles are to be used...Sit up as high as possible without letting your abdomen bulge...Do this atleast for 10 times...
The above exercises are to be done in the third week only...However the excercises during the first and second weeks can be done in the third week also...Exercises are to be continued on a schedule prepared by you for atleast 3 months...Try to perform these exercises for another 3 months...So 6 months of exercises and there wont be any abdomen bulge!!!
If you do this work out everyday after that,it is well and good...You can stay trim forever!!!
So,what are you waiting for...C'mon lets get you back in to shape!!!

Conducive Factors For A Baby To Sleep
Your new born, like you,is tired from the delivery...He or she is also growing rapidly which uses up a lot of energy...As a result, expect your baby to sleep a lot...Your new born may sleep for 16 to 18 hours...If your baby does want to sleep throughout the day, gently wake him or her about every 3 hours for feedings...
Where your baby sleeps depends on what's right for you and your family...Some put their babies in a crib in their bedroom...some prefer to put the baby in a crib in the nursery...Some put the baby beside on the same bed..Because newborns are so small, your baby may feel more secure sleeping in a baby basket than in a crib..If you are placing the baby in a crib make sure he or she will be warm..Wrap your baby in a blanket...If you make the baby sleep in your room in the nights,it will be easier for you...In case you put the baby in a crib in the nursery room, place an electronic baby monitor...
There are no rules or patterns initially for when a baby sleeps or doesnot..Although you cant schedule when or how long a baby sleeps, you can adjust patterns to fit a day night cycle...But after a few months babies will fall in to a pattern or routine...
At night, put your baby to sleep in a baby basket or crib..When your baby wakes, feed and change him or her quietly...Keep the lights dim and limit any distractions so that the baby will go to sleep sooner...
During the day,put your baby on a cradle or basket to sleep...Wake your baby for feedings and talk and play with your little one...Make funny faces for your baby...The longer your baby is awake during the day,the better he or she is likely to sleep at night...
Help your baby fall alseep!Train your baby to sleep despite normal household sounds..If you go out of your way to be quiet now,the father will always have to tip toe and whisper so the baby can sleep...Instead make sure baby is fed and has spent quiet time in your arms before being put to bed...You can try humming or singing or telling a story...Most babies like rhythmic motion..Rock your baby gently..You can try bathing your baby just before bed time..In case baby is too small you can give him/ her a sponge bath.Try massaging your baby's stomach and feet..You can play lullaby tapes as well..If unusual noise such as construction work is heard, screen it out by playing music in the room..
To Avoid:
1.Newborns who sleep on their stomachs seem to have a higher risk of sudden infant death syndrome(SIDS)
2.Never put a newborn down on a pillow..
3.Do not place stuffed animals in the baby basket and crib..This could lead to suffocation..
4.There shouldnot be any loose or missing bars or sharp edges on the head board or foot board...
5.The space between crib bars is no more than 7cm,so baby's head wont fit between the bars..

Caring For Your Baby's Cold
For new moms
The nine months of waiting are over...You are now the radiant mother of a bouncing baby....The intense feeling of joy and love for this new person in your life cannot be compared to anything you have ever experienced before...No wonder you are extra careful with just about everything!Especially if you are breast feeding, you make sure that you are eating only the most nutritious food and drinking only the most wholesome beverages...You know that maintaining your health directly benefits your baby's health....
Unfortunately, simple discomforts such as colds are a bit more bothersome at this time...You wont be able to take standard medication, unless advised by your doctor as this may affect you baby's health...Never give your baby any medicine without consulting with the paediatrician...But at the same time,do not suffer in silence and let a cold prevent you from enjoying precious time with your baby....
Some useful tips
-Prevention is better than cure...So as the saying goes, make sure you dont come in to contact with people who are suffering froma cold, even if it means family and friends...They should understand that you dont need aggravataion and potential harm to you and your baby...
-You are actually eating for two...So eat a well balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables which will give you vitamins and minerals that help you fight infections..
-Avoid irritants that come with blocked nose...Drink lots of fluids...Avoid dry mouth and keep a lip balm for dry lips...
-Rest is a major issue...Rest whenever you can...This will help your body ease and energy to spend time with your baby...
When baby has a stuffy nose:
Your baby's first years are the most special ones...Children breathe through their noses and dont know to blow mucous out..That's why they feel so uncomfortable when they have blocked noses..Also their immune systems are still immature and so babies are more prone to infections..Colds are a nuisance..So take extra precautions..Wash your hands before touching the baby everytime..Keep away from crowded places..Do not allow strangers to touch your baby..Always carry wet wipes and tissues with you for cleaning...

2.Choose low fat cheeses...
3.Cook with olive or vegetable oil instead of butter or margraine...
4.Use tofu or nuts in stir fries instead of meat..
5.Try adding a slice of avocado or any other vegetable instead of cheese to a sandwich..
6.Enjoy a baked potato instead of fries and use a low fat yoghurt instead of sour cream..
7.Switch to a lower fat milk..
8.Substitute buttermilk instead of mayonnaise in salad dressings or instead of butter use mashed potatoes!!
9.Add more beans and vegetables...remember to use less meat...
10.Enjoy fruit served with low fat yoghurt instead of icecream for dessert...
Remember health comes first as health is wealth...

Introducing Solid Foods To Babies
There is no specific age at which to start solids...But for most babies,4 to 6 months is just about right...For preterm babies, please wait till they learn to swallow and do not force it on them...Starting too early can be harmful because the digestive system may not be able to handle solids yet..Also early introduction of solids may increase the risk of developing food allergies..An infant solely depending on breast milk can generally wait until he is 5 or 6 months old for solid foods...But after that breast milk alone may not provide the adequate calories and the nutrients that a baby needs for normal growth...
The first solid food must be easy to digest and unlikely to provoke an allergic reaction...Infant cereal is the best choice...There are a lot of commercial preparations available according to the age of the baby in terms of months...Companies like cerelac, nestum are available in india...In the above said commercial cereal foods, the cereal has to be mixed with warm water before it is given to the baby...However ready to use commercial foods are also available with companies like gerber..
Commercial baby foods offer several advantages-they are safe and most are sugar- and salt-free.For the mother, they offer convenience..But follow these precautions..Never feed the baby straight from the jar and then save the remaining food;saliva on the spoon can transmit bacteria to the food and result in spoilage..Commercial baby food typically tastes bland;so do not season with salt..Excessive salt can cause health problems later..
For the first few feedins, put a very small amount on the spoon, gently touch the baby's lips to encourage him to open the mouth and place the cereal at the back of the tongue...Dont expect the feedins to go smoothly...There will be a lot of spitting, sputtering and protesting..Please dont lose your patience...
Start the feeding with a few minutes of nursing or bottle-feeding,the offering a small amount of the moistened cereal(no more than a teaspoon or two) and finishing with milk...After a few sessions like this, you may gradually increase the amount of solid foods and reduce the amount of milk..
There are so many flavors available commercially..Always start with rice cereal...Apple and banana cereals are also good...Introduce only one or two items a week...Give the baby variety! So they dont get bored of it...Some people prefer only home-cooked foods...Make sure they are thoroughly pureed.....In addition to the rice cereal, try oat meal and barley cereals as well..You can also give strained vegetables and fruits and pureed chicken..At about 5 months of age, fruit juices also can be introduced to your little one..Start with apple juice...Baked apple can also be given...Hold off on orange juice and other citrus fruits for atleast 6 months as they may provoke an allergic reaction and also babies may lose interest in drinking milk as citrus juices are sweeter...Bananas are great for baby's first food..They are bland and easy to digest..
Withdraw any food that provokes a rash, running nose, unusual fussiness, diarrhoea or any other reactions....

Bedroom - Bedroom makeover
Bedroom is their comfort zone, people say so...It is true...It is a room where you drop all your masks and relax....But it is more than just a room to sleep;it should also have some sparkle and interest so that you do not have to shut the door whenever guests come to visit!Dull and boring should never be the words to describe your bedroom...If you need a change of scenery in your bedroom, then it is time for a makeover!
Here are a few tips-
-Start with that walls. There are a 100 ways to freshen up the dull walls. If you dont want to do the cumbersome repainting, add a pretty wall paper border to the top or center of the walls. You can also add a fresh coat of paint in a trendy new fashion and colour. If painting all the four walls seems too big a task, add paint, fabric or wall paper to one wall only for an accent.
-Before you start making over try to think of a theme. How do you want your bedroom to be?You can qucikly add a theme to your bedroom by buying a few items and adding a bit of details. If it's a girl's room, think pink,flowers,dolls....You can paint butterflies or fairies or cinderella on the wall..Top the windows and canopy bed with the pink.A beach theme would be ideal for both bous and girls.Just pick up the right things to decorate the room. For the boys room you can also try cars as a theme or choose super heroes....For an adult's room you could try a theme with your wild imagination or stick to a quiet pure white dreamy ambience.
-Always make it luxurious and romantic.Purchase a fur or velevet blanket for your bed and matching pillows.Add lots of scented candles to your room to liven up your senses.Use multiple layers of window curtains and blankets in differnt patters and textures.Create a sense of luxury!
-Add sparkle to your bedroom by adding your own art works to decorate the wall or buy few and hang them on your walls. These should dominate the walls...Try these...

-Add sparkle to your bedroom by adding your own art works to decorate the wall or buy few and hang them on your walls. These should dominate the walls...Try these...

**Breast Feeding*****The Goodness Of It...
Breast milk is said to provide the best and most complete food to achieve optimal health, growth and development for full term infants..It is also said that a baby should be only breast fed for 6 months....However preterm babies and low birth weight babies need a formula and also breast milk..An adequate alternative to breast milk s commercial infant formula..This contains comparable nutrition but lacks the unique benefits of breast milk..Breast feeding till 6 months may not be possible for working mothers...In such cases a good commercial infant formula must be chosen..
Colostrum, the breast fluid that is secreted for the first few days after birth is higher in protein and lower in sugar and fat than later breast milk...It has a laxative effect that activates the baby's bowels..It is also rich in antibodies which will increase the baby's resistance to infection..Breast milk is easy to digest and provides all the necessary nutrients..
How To Tell If Your Baby Is Getting Enough Food?
Many new mothers worry over this...
-How many wet diapers and stools does my baby have each day?
-Is my baby growing?
-Does my baby appear hungy?
-Is my crying because milk wasnt sufficient?
The Advantages Of Breast -Feeding:
-Nursing stimulates uterine contractions that help prevent haemorrhaging and return the uterus to normal size..
-Breast milk is economial!
-It is sterile and always at the right temperature..
-Nursing promotes a special kind of mother-infant bonding..
-Breast fed babies have fewer infections..
So,i would suggest that every mother should do her best to breast feed her infant.....Happy bonding!!!

Friendship-A Few Thoughts
-Friendship is the sunshine,
That turns the sky to gold.
Friendship is the fragrance,
A thousand blessings hold.
Friendship is the pathway,
Leads to dream come true.
For friendship is the blessing,
Of knowing someone like you.
-A smile is the key to friendship.
-To have a friend, you must be a friend.
oh yes,how very true,
May i be the kind of friend myself
That i have found in you.
-Your friendship means so much to me
Ane even though we are far apart
I think of you each day,
Iam looking forward eagerly,
To seeing you again,
My thoughts,prayers and wishes
will be with you until then.
-Friendship is a special treat,
That's made with love and cheer,
And seasoned well,
with thoughtfulness
It lasts year after years.
-A stranger is a friend you havent met.
-True friendship is like sound health, the value of it seldome known until it is lost.
-Keeping in touch with friends we treasure,
And wishing them joy,is the greatest of pleasure.
-I believe that true friends are never double faced, that they keep good faith with one another.
-Friendship is the mingling of two hearts and minds.
-A friend is someone with whom you can quarrel with and still have a good relatonship.
-A friend is your fairy Godmother who can change your thoughts, world and life.
-We would never be alone when we have a friend.
-Friendship is sincerity, sharing, caring and mutual understanding for without them, friendship would be meaningless.
-To my friends,
lets sail the ship of happiness together and another in the harbour of success.
-Friend is a word
without beginning or end,
It is the sum of God's plan
to prove man's worth.
-True friendship is like a full grown flower
Formed by petals as beautiful
as mother nature allows,
Even if it dies,All the memories will be
something to think about.
-Friendship is like a flower,
that blossoms through the spring
It's like the rays of sunshine
And that's why
Iam so grateful
For the friendship that we share.
-A little seed,a little care,
Some shine,rain and freesh air,
A flower there.
A little deed,a little to share
Some smiles and some care
A friendship rare.
-Only human,
Remember,my friend
You are only human
and therefore,things,
will sometimes seem to go wrong
But if you'd only let it be
Remember,my friend
Iam human too,
and therefore
Iam not always
what you thought iam
But if you'd only let me be.
-Some people say
that a true and lasting friendship
is one that survives
through the good times
and the bad times.
All i know is
with you as my friend
there never had been bad times
For your strength
and faith and caring
have made every struggle
such a time of love for me
that i've never felt alone,
or afraid
or hopeless...
so when people talk about
what a truly lasting friendship is
i already know...
It's having you.....
-The memories that mean the most to me are times we've shared so happily...
iam glad that you are my friend...
-Friendship is like a flower...
A joy from day to day
But you must take good care of it
Lest it should fade away
So always treat it gently
And nourished by your care,
The bud will grow and flourish in to a blossom rare.
-Friendship,
There's a wonderful thing
that gold cannot buy
A blessing that's rare and true
And that's he gift of
a wonderful friend
like the friend i have in you!
-Friendship is like a beautiful garden
The more we put in to it,
the better it grows.
-Dearest friend,
You know that nothing can ever change what we have always been and always will be to each other.
-A brief meeting
A long parting
Nevertheless
Two strangers have met
Communicated
They are now friends
But oceans apart!
That turns the sky to gold.
Friendship is the fragrance,
A thousand blessings hold.
